RAGA DARBARI FOR BAss clarinet

The king of ragas, Darbari or Darbari Kanada is a serious raga and difficult to master. The meend (glissando) has to portray the crying of a king and it’s movement is very strict. It was composed in the 16th century by legendary musician Miyan Tansen who was a court musicians for the Moghul emperor Akbar The Great.

The trickiest part to this raga is the use of Eb (Ga komal) it has to be approached from F but with the use of quarter tones to produce a type of oscillation. Its vadi (most important note) is D (Re) and samvadi (second most important note is G (Pa).
